Was anyone else annoyed that the damn helicopters were ALWAYS flying side by side and frequently stopped to turn and face each other?

On the contraryit anthromorphized them well. Sometimes assumed "reality" has to take second place to art. Every time I've seen this film in a theatre, there has been tremendous applause when
      they bought the farm

        Ha!
That's cool! Thanks for that remembrance! Very interesting.
Yeah, those helicopters were cool as sht. The OH-6/MD(Hughes)500 is one of my fave helicopters and I don't think I've ever seen them filmed more beautifully.
And, yes, you are right. By having them (without pilot voices) do their little coordinated ballet with one anothr in the air Director Hyams really gave ominous life to those machines. Obviously, none of that was real-life combat tactics but it is ART and it looked damn-good!
On November 6, 2012 god blessed Americaagain.

Perhaps, but the entire film I couldn't help but think the baddies would have better luck finding the astronauts if they split up and covered twice as much ground. 😛

I loved how the helicopters came across like big ugly insects.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Yeah and at how they dehumanized the pilots to make them, as well as the choppers, not look like they were on our side.
