'As I've said countless times: if you don't have the Sad then you don't have the Scary.'
Yeah, that's so true.
My favorite horror films are from the Seventies.
Exorcist
when the priest questions his faith after the death of his mother;
Carrie
bullied at school and then again at home with her religious fanatic of a mother;
The Omen
with Gregory Peck and Lee Remick portraying a wealthy couple with everything except a child of their own.
Come to think of it all these films' premises deal with 'mother' or parenting issues.
Anyways by the Eighties - Jason, Freddie and the rest - it was just all about the body count.
Happiness must be earned. -

HmmmI had never thought of that, but it's a good point. Some of the best horror movies out there have something sad about them which can lead to something very scary. I'll ponder this for a while. Thank you!

Aye* While compiling, I wanted to embrace varied genres & even holiday specific fare which has stood the test of my time.

I agree Halloween does capture the "fall" feeling despite being filmed the spring and seeing palm trees way out in the distance. They did a good job with the fake leaves and the illusion of cool crisp air.
I agree Creepshow captures that fall look, too. It's one of my fave movies! Creepshow II is weak, but watchable and I never bothered with the third one either.

Clue
Rushmore
The early Harry Potters sometimes fit the bill, focused on entering/returning to school, & several months of autumn on screen.
