Right…but the story takes place in metropolis and always has. just like Batman will always take place in Gotham city…no mater if they film it in Chicago or Pittsburgh…it's always set in Gotham.

I understand. My problem is that they included the Statue of Liberty and California. That tells me the United States exists. Therefore New York City exists. That's when the distraction began for me when they kept referring it to Metropolis. On the other hand, Batman (1989 version) obscured everything, so I believed it enough that Gotham existed.

I disagree with your review.
This is my most favorite superhero movie and one of the few I own.
From the epic journey through space with the iconic Williams music towards Krypton to the end the whole thing is just so damn good and perfect.

I like a lot of things about it, but the movie is too damn long. They need to cut an hour out of it and make Lex Luther a really hard guy, not a buffoon. Plus more screen time for Christopher Reeve who was doing so well.

make Lex Luther a really hard guy, not a buffoon.
The copy I have includes extra scenes.
One of which is before Supes breaks into Lex's underground lair Lex set up a bunch of automatic traps which Supes must get through first such as flame throwers, extreme cold and a bunch of bullets.
Another scene shows him trying to feed Miss Tesmaucher (Sic) to a tiger he has but Superman flies in and saves her at the last second.
What we did see:
Was where Lex sent a cop to his death by making a moving wall push him in front of a train.
Lex knew that one of the missiles would kill Miss Tesmaucher's mother and he didn't care.
To me Lex looks pretty bad as it is.
Granted he seems like a buffoon but keep in mind this was made after the 60's campy Batman TV series ended where all the super villains were over the top silliness.
Superhero TV shows and movies back then had a more lighthearted approach which matched the comic books.
