Why are Americans so obsessed with ancestry?

Not trolling but genuinely curious why Americans, who are known for their superiority complex, seem so interested in their ancestry. Like they are so proud to declare that their great, great grandfather came from Italy and their great, great, great grandmother came from Ireland and then they will refer to themselves as Italian/Irish. I have never known another nation to do this, especially to the same extent.
You would think that with how much pride they have in a flag and how nationalistic they are, they would be happy to just say they are American but there seems to be a real curiosity like they need to know where they came from through the previous generations.
Biographies of Americans on Wikipedia will mention where their ancestors originated or that there is some Jewish connection somewhere along the line lol Like seriously, who cares where grandma was born 100 years ago

The superiority complex is because America is by far the greatest and most powerful nation the universe has ever known or will ever know. Plus our dicks are bigger than everyone else's.

We are a nation built by relatively recent immigration. Most other nations couldn't trace their ancestry back to the point where their forefathers settled.
