I love Hoffman as hell too. He is little giant man but lets be honest. Sellers was the greatest in this movie.
His acting skills are way beyond any actors nowadays.

I agree. Sellers was unbeatable in this role, at least to me. So genuine, so far away from today's awards' cliches. Hoffman is a great actor, of course, but I don't consider Kramer vs. Kramer a superior film to Being There: he should have won earlier, for Lenny or The Graduate.

I agree as well. Hoffman is indeed a great actor and was fine in
        Kramer v Kramer
but Sellers' performance was simply superior to Hoffman's.

in my opinion one of the greatest performances of all time - Peter Sellers belongs on any list of superlative actors

Generally agreed w/ everyone here. I would just add that in addition, the film should've been nominated for best picture that year. Easily over Breaking Away (and I loved Breaking Away). That being said, Apocalypse Now should've taken the oscar that year for picture. I mean, come on
"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

He certainly deserved it; however it was a tough call that year. The other contestants were Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Roy Scheider and Dustin Hoffman.
However I find it more outrageous that "Being there " wasnt even nominated for the Best Picture Award.

I love Seller's performance in this, it's truly remarkable, but Hoffman was soo great too, he rightfully won in my opinion

I absolutely agree. I do believe Hoffman should have won an Oscar for Midnight Cowboy.
