I've just seen the movie for the first time as well. And considering it's been over 35 years from its release date, and that it had an estimated budget of $650,000, I honestly think they did a terrific job with this movie.

      Badly directed.
This is one film i'd like someone try a re-cut (fan-edit), just to see if it could be improved. I don't have the artsy eye to do it myself.

I fell that most of the problems of mad max are all driven by music. Music just fitted in badly in this film, and that ruined most of the scenes.

I see your point, but on the other hand it's late 70s, and two years earlier John Williams composed that fantastic score that is the Star Wars score. I think the problem was that they couldn't afford a good composer, let's remember that this film had quite limited funds

Badly directed? How???? This is one of the greatest movies ever made, and no, the score is not over the top or unfitting.

People blindly praise this movie more out of nostalgia and the influence it had on other films than for the actual film itself.
I mean, it's a very sloppy movie. It has no real plot or theme until the third act. It meanders along from scene to scene without much focus on any one character or idea. All we know is that it's kind of the end of the word, there are gangs and cops and they're fighting. Hell, for the first act Max can't even be called the protagonist. Goose had more focus than Max. So it baffles me that certain fans love to rip on Fury Road for not being about Max when he wasn't the clear protagonist since his first film.
The whole revenge aspect of the movie is a 20 minute ordeal. It's not given much time to have any impact. It just happens and then Max is killing people. And the revenge itself is pretty lackluster too. All he does is run some people off the road, really.
Where the film excels is the action. And that's it.
The sequels are leagues better. And yes, that included Thunderdome.

'Course it has flaws. But I'd like to see your first action feature film and see if it's as popular in 37 years as Mad Max still is.

How is that any kind of argument?
