Nothing, everything was horrible from start to end. Zero laughs.

It's funny because it's silly (chocolate bar in the pool),
and a lot of the comedy comes from the improvisations (Bill Murray and Chevy Chase scene).
        Also, Rodney stole the show

Personally for me, the memorable quotes and colorful characters make this comedy funny. But I respect opinions, as long as it's backed up. I can especially see now that audiences may find this film nothing more than a goof-off.

            DOODIE!!!!
Yeah I have to say if yo saw this and didn't get it or it wasn't funny, then just move on. It's a classic and being its about golf and general storyline acting it hasn't aged bad other than clothing line and hairdos alike. So yeah if you didn't think it was funny then you just don't get it whereas most everyone else does.
All that said yes this film like any other film has the mark of the 80's and was better back then, but still if I'm up late and there's nothing else on and I run across this I'll put it on. Good ol flick

I'd compare this to Raising Arizona or a low-key film rather than Happy Gilmore or a more up-front comedy. This movie is laid backif you're expecting to laugh hysterically throughout the thing you'll be disappointed. Honestly, seeing random scenes on youtube or instagram (like "You'll get nothing and like it!!!") make me appreciate this movie more. Also, being into golf/caddying helps.

I'm so glad I am among those that''don't get'' this movie. I feel genuinely sorry for people entertained by it.

When I was 20 in 1980, the guys who loved this movie didn't go to, or dropped out of school; and there were just myriads of them. Just noting a correlation.
Boobs, poop jokes, overacting, blowing up stuff. Dangerfield was a patron saint then.

I think it's interesting that the op wanted someone to explain what was funny about Caddyshack, but only a few of the film's many fans rose to that challenge. Most of the rebuttals are just mindless insults of the op. Which just proves what I've believed all along, that Caddyshack is an iconic but often bland comedy that we've been duped into believing is a classic. 6/10 for me.

Explaining a funny joke doesn't work. It's like showing the wires in a magic act. You either laugh and get it and thusly appreciate it or you sit there wondering why everyone else is giggling and thusly so much more stupid than your highbrow wisdom.

If you love golf, you must know it is not possible to play 18 holes without at least 10 moments where somebody if not everybody in your foursome quotes a line from the movie. If you can honestly say that isn't true, you must be playing with some REALLY dour, humorless people.

There are a lot of people who don't find this movie funny. It really depends on who you identify with in the film.
If you identify with the slobs, i.e. the caddies, the blue-collar folks, the sincere characters, then the movie is hilarious.
If you identify with snobs, those whose personal mantra is "Some people just don't belong", well, then the movie isn't very funny at all.
