The whole bit with the bishop is actually a play on an old golf joke.
Short version: guy goes to confessional, says he took the Lord's name in vain while playing golf, priest keeps pumping him for details, after several missed guesses guy says he had a two footer to close out the best round of his life, priest says, "Don't tell my you missed a *** **** two foot putt!"
I think the movie would have been better without that scene after the round. It was anticlimactic. -

You are kidding us, right? Get the hell over it. It's a movie. Did the sex scenes with Lacey Underall and Ty and Danny offend you too? If you don't want to hear there is no God, turn your volume down just during that scene..idiots!
By the way I am Catholic and thought it was hilarious. -

I'm sorry that tneagl feels that way, but the true of the matter is that's what people believe in. Whether or not they believe in God. I'm tell ya right now, these are jokes. Nothing wrong with laughing about life. This is what makes the world. Can't speak for GOD, but you need some laughter in your life to get through things and you really shouldn't take things so seriously. That's why Chaddyshack, Blazing Saddles, Etc have been under attack, because of their racist jokes. This movie is based on outcasts, lower class, people that don't belong. He is a Bishop and He told Danny that he couldn't join his church. Just think about it.

People nowadays are labouring under the illusion that "offensive" means something tangible. All it really means is that you were offended, and really, who cares if you were offended? The world is not going to play by rules dictated by one person, or even one group of people. People are always going to offend, and people are always going to feel offended. It's unavoidable. And part of being a grown up is learning and accepting that.
Find a way to deal with the fact that you will be offended occasionally, and that the mere fact that you feel offended doesn't necessarily mean squat. TV Shows, movies, books, music, people on the street, they're sometimes going to offend you. Get over it.
Of course, there are extreme cases where what's being said is inciting violence or actively discriminatory or defamation and so on. But as grown ups, we need to be able to tell the difference between the serious threats to the safety of others, and what just plain hurts somebody's feelings (like somebody saying there's a God, or not a God, or somebody having a Nickleback CD or something). Pick your battle very carefully. And don't expect anything to happen just because you heard something you don't like.
