    All those modern Jet Fighter Planes have been put through giant shredders and if were still in existence, would be as antiquated as the Zero's they shot down in the movie. What a strange thought.

      Wouldn't at least the Tomcats be stored in some boneyard like Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson?

        Yes, and there are still plenty at museums around the U.S.A. Also I believe Iran still has some working F-14 Tomcats from the 80 that were sold to them before 1980. I've heard that a lot of them are in disrepair and Iran has sent spies to the boneyard in Tucson to steal parts unsuccessfully.

          With the exception of Designated museum pieces and display aircraft (planes on sticks) All Tomcat Airframes and components were shredded specifically so that Iran cannot get ahold of spares on the bkack market or through espionage.
          I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
