I don't understand how people can say its the worst film ever made when there are films like
    Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
    .
Solid story, solid characters, interesting setting, beautiful cinematography, memorable music and very impressive production design. Very powerful final scene too.
I suggest the naysayers who said its the "worst film ever made" go and watch
    Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
    .
If at first you don't succeed, you're not Chuck Norris

It's by far not one of the worst of all timeUntil you look at the budget. All things considered it deserves to be on the disaster list. Almost nothing went right and it cost lot an d lots of cash.

It's definitely not the worst. Just notorious for being a box office disaster. I finally saw it over the weekend. Had to watch in 2 sittings. Fell asleep part way through disk 1. Can't say I loved it. It could have been much much shorter. I had to fast forward through some parts where nobody as doing anything or riding a horse/carriage somewhere. Even the battle scenesI was just bored by that point and wanted it over with.
I like slow movies generally speaking. Long movies don't bother me. There were many things to like here, scenery, some of the cast, cinematography, the overall theme, but as a whole it was just too long and bloated. The story quite simply could have been told in much less time. I can't imagine the original cut.

when you consider not only its budget, but the talent available and the director's intentions to make a serious historic masterpiece, yes it just may be the worst film ever made. The best I can say about it (as a whole) is that the movie is unfinished. That's what bugs me about it, that it could've been great if Cimino just bothered to remember the value in some very basic and fundamental storytelling. Comparing it to movies like Paul Blart is silly because those movies only try to provide light entertainment and operate with profit in mind.

Sorry oki9Sedo, but saying X film is not that bad when there's Y film and the like to hate on is a lazy argument.
Sure, I'd rather watch Alien Vs. Predator than Gigli, but that doesn't make AVP a good film.
Heaven's Gate has beautiful production design, costumes and locations, yet fails due to the bloated runtime, poor script, flat characters and lack of direction.

My reaction to seeing it was the same. I would not call it any type of masterpiece, but it was definitely a solid film, good acting, and great cinematography.
