i dont know why all of you are bagging it out so much?? lacks acting aside this was one of the most original films i have ever seen and I loved the storyline.. I am disappointed to hear about the remake as I dont think it could do the original justice (but I am against remakes of any films!)

Cronenberg's remake of The Fly in 1986 is better than the original. It's probably one of the best remakes ever.

I thought the original version was very good and I loved it as well. Remakes never do very well in my honest opinion.

I love the film, but I think this is one of those films that could actually gain from a remake. If they do it well that is, and don't just churn out a tired old script simply for a cash in on cult status, as it could well turn out to be.
If it was done well though I could imagine it being really good, and perhaps even a sequel!

Why should they try to make a remake great, or better than the original? They should just shoot the movie, fill it with gimicky CGI as always and it will be just fine and right for the 12 year olds.
Btw I just watched Scanners for the first time, and though I had seen the head exploding scene before, the movie is almost perfect, so there is no need for a cheap cash-in remake.

Well, besides this movie being a product of its time, Scanners also had quite a number of sequels. Scanners is a movie that probably couldn't be remade without an extensive updating, and the themes and plotlines of this movie have been endlessly recycled in other movies and television shows. The acting is no better and no worse than most low-budget flicks of this time, filled with big names slumming and newbies on their way up. Scanners came out at the right time, and it had the right cast, and I remember seeing it at the theatre and being blown away. There was nothing like it at the theaters for my young self and so this is a movie that has stuck with me over the years. Is it a good movie? Who knows? I liked/like it.
