I was born in '69 and had the chance to see Superman 2 in theaters back in '80. There was a fair amount of news coverage at the time over Richard Donner and his firing from the film. I can't remember, does anybody know if Richard saw S2 in '80 when the film was in cinemas? Does remember if in fact Dick saw S2 what he thought of the film? I'm sure it's been mentioned before, however my memory of 1980 isn't quite as sharp as it use to be!

Yes, he did see it, and he said many of the footage used in the Lester version was stuff he shot. For example, all of the scenes with Gene Hackman.
