continued from the message board for The Empire Strikes Back.
      SUPERMAN II
*Superman saves Paris from a nuclear bomb in a scene that was apparently removed by Richard Donner many years later
*Superman is late in helping the President Of The United States
*was the 2nd highest grossing film in the summer of 1981 in the U.S., making only 50.9% of what Raiders Of The Lost Ark made at the box office. Raiders Of The Lost Ark positioned Spielberg as Hollywood's most successful director in 1981, just in time for Poltergeist. John William's score for Raiders Of The Lost Ark was nominated for an Oscoh, wait a minute, this list is about exceptional movies between 1977 and 1987 involving interplanetary travel. Sorry for getting off the subject
      *features a nuclear explosion
*according to the 1984 edition of the Guinness Book Of World Records, a figure of $60 million had been attributed to the budget of Superman II, but had not been substantiated at the time. So instead, it listed the $46 million budget for Star Trek: The Motion Picture as having the highest budgeted film at the time. However, that same book from the same year listed Heaven's Gate as having the largest loss for a movie with a total cost including distribution and studio overheads of $57 million.
to be continued on the message board for Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan..and then on the message board for E.T. and then on the message board for Return Of The Jediand so on and so on.

Unlike the first Superman movie, Superman II didn't receive any kind of Oscar recognition for its visual effects.
The visual effects Oscar that year went to Raiders Of The Lost Ark, the movie that positioned Spielberg as Hollywood's most successful film director (financially), just in time for Poltergeist. Raiders Of The Lost Ark received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, andoh, wait a minute, I'm discussing memorable films involving interplanetary travel from 1977 to 1987. I got off the subject againsorry.
