During the 1st half of MOMMIE DEAREST, I thought it was a good movie. Not a guilty pleasure like most people call it; I mean actually good. I was invested in the story and characters and I felt bad whenever JOAN CRAWFORD abused her daughter CHRISTINA but thats the problem right there. Eventually I realized that there was nothing more to the movie than that. If youre going to make a movie about this subject, you have to analyze it and show some kind of development (for the better or even for the worse). This movie remains the same thing over and over. At times, JOAN gets mad over things that dont even make sense. The 2nd half is where it becomes so boring that watching Faye Dunaway chew scenery isnt even fun anymore. By the way, I read that she thought she was going to win an Oscar. I thought she couldve. No, really. Shes very over-the-top, but so was the real Joan Crawford. And its not like Dunaway just randomly screams and puts angry faces; she has a real screen presence. Not everyone can pull that off. This is more clear during her scenes with Steve Forrest, who tries to do the same but fails. However, director Frank Perry needed to tell her when she was crossing the line. He didnt, so she won a Razzie instead. Meanwhile, Diana Scarwid's performance is terrible. People love the scene with
the wire hangers. Yes, JOANs hissy fit is funny, but the camera would inmediately cut to CHRISTINA crying, and that made me feel sad. So I was switching from wanting to laugh to wanting to cry
every half a second. I know the scene was meant to be uncomfortable, but not in that way.

Durante la 1ra mitad de MAMITA QUERIDA, pens que era una pelcula buena. No un placer culposo como la mayora de la gente la llama; me refiero a una realmente buena. Estaba metido en la historia y los personajes y me sent mal cada vez que JOAN CRAWFORD abus de su hija CHRISTINA pero justamente ese es el problema. Con el tiempo me di cuenta de que no haba nada ms en la pelcula que eso. Si van a hacer una pelcula sobre este tema, tienen que analizarlo y mostrar algn tipo de desarrollo (para bien o para mal). Esta pelcula se mantiene como la misma cosa una y otra vez. A veces, JOAN se enoja por cosas que ni siquiera tienen sentido. La 2da mitad es donde se vuelve tan aburrida que ver a Faye Dunaway sobre-actuar ya ni siquiera es divertido. Por cierto, le que ella pens que iba a ganar un Oscar. Creo que poda. No, en serio. Es muy exagerada, pero tambin lo era la verdadera Joan Crawford. Y no es como si Dunaway solamente grita y pone caras de enojo sin razn; ella tiene una verdadera presencia en la pantalla. No todos pueden lograr eso. Esto es ms claro durante sus escenas con Steve Forrest, quien trata de hacer lo mismo pero falla. Sin embargo, el director Frank Perry necesitaba decirle cuando ella se estaba excediendo. l no lo hizo, as que ella gan un Razzie en su lugar. Entretanto, la actuacin de Diana Scarwid es psima. A la gente le encanta la escena con
los ganchos de alambre. Cierto que la pataleta de JOAN es chistosa, pero la cmara inmediatamente cortaba a CHRISTINA llorando y eso me hizo sentir triste. As que yo estaba pasando de querer rer a querer llorar
cada medio segundo. S que se supona que la escena fuera incmoda, pero no de esa manera.
