This movie wasn't all I'd hoped it would be, but Robert Preston was by far the brightest star in this movie. No one can deliver a witty one-liner like Preston! His performance was definitely the most memorable!

Webber's character was more the whore with the heart of gold type of character, rather than a stuffy autmoaton, what most people associate his image with. His character in this movie was, underneath the Hollywood trappings, a decent guy.the beautiful thing about the trifecta of characters who rescue Felix's body is that they are probably the only genuine people in the movie. Culley accets the fact that he is a drunken skirt chaser and Robert Preston admits to being a quack. In recognizing their flaws, they are one up on most of the castm who are oblivious to their own failings.

Given that this was Blake Edwards' savaging Hollywood (at least, as much as could while being financed by a major studio) it's no surprise there were no nominations.
It's great to watch Preston in this and 'Victor/Victoria'he looks like he's having such a good time

Obviously Blake burned a lot of bridges with this one, but more power to him! This is the cinematic equivalent of "You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again." And Robert Preston was charming and hilarious in this and in "Victor/Victoria." I must say, though, that his "head helmet" in both films was a bit of a distraction.

I dug the movie overall, but Preston's Dr Finegarten was the reason I HAD to buy it on iTunes. He was, unequivocably, my FAVE character in this. Webber was also great, and Holden was likeable enough but Preston..the cat's jammies. "Would it damage your amateur standing if I had you use a sterile syringe?" Haaa!

He is very good and very funny as the doctor in a film full of wonderful and hilarious performances. He delivered his sardonic dialogue in a matter-of-fact tone, never pushing it or let in on the fact that he is being funny.

He just got better and better as he got older. He could play any role and was hysterical as Dr Irv. I also loved Toddy and of course Harold Hill, but one of my absolute favorites was Michael Finnegan in "finnegan begin again". Funny, touching and real. Tough movie to find, but well worth it.
I think I laughed the loudest in SOB when he said " if he doesn't remember me, mention his first clap" -

Easily the best part of the film. He's a total hoot.
