I can't remember ever being really disturbed by anything when I saw this movie as a kid. But then I was a different sort of short person then too. I was always disturbed by the pink elephants on parade segment in Dumbo more than anything in this movie
Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils

I have to agree about the scene of the Chamberlain's humiliation. It was the most disturbing scene for me as a child. I have no vivid recollection of the Podling-draining scene unnerving me.or anything else for that matter. I guess I just found it all kind of unusual. But the Skeksis stripping the Chamberlain naked? THAT scared me. XD
EDIT: Actually, I just remembered, as a child I hated that the Landstriders got killed. The one that falls off the cliff at least took that one Garthim with it. But I thought the part where all the Garthim gang up on the fallen one was pretty disturbing.

The part that creeped me out the most was when the king skesis dies at the beginning and just sort of crumbles into pieces and blows away. That scared the bejesus out of me!

I didn't see the disrobing of the Chamberlain because I never made it past the death of that one Skeksis. I didn't see the whole movie until I was about 24 or 25. and that was the first time I'd seen it since I was a kid. it scared me that much.

yes! that's what they're called! I was racking my brain trying to remember their names, but that scene still haunts me. They had nothing to do with that battle and ended up dying for it!

I was very easily scared by the entire dying Emperor scene and I still try to avoid being in the same room whenever it airs at that point. And I'm atleast 30 years old now. When Fizgig popped out of the hole and scared Jen into the mud, that was the next scary scene for me, then the Garthim raid on the village; esp. when one Garthim looked right into the camera lens. It made me think they were going to come after me.
And as much as I couldn't stand this scene, the Garthim attacking and killing the Landstriders makes the top of my list for disturbing. We have 2 beautiful creatures that look like rabbits and making sounds like a whimpering dog only wanting to be loved, but instead getting torn apart by monsters. Any scene that has an animal in pain or suffering by people or other animals, that makes me sad and upset. For example: a dog got shot with an arrow and died in "The Beastmaster"; there were also a ferret in quicksand in that movie. I also refer you to the dogs who got shot with arrows in "Dances With Wolves" as well as the wolf who got gunshot and killed.

The absolute worst for me was when Chamberlain went to take the scepter and the dying Skeksis jumped at him and hissed "MINE!" Terrifying for me. He was so old and gross and looked like he smelled bad. His teeth were all caddywumpus too. I think that's why I don't like old people to this day. It was pretty bad when he crumbled away too. Grody.

The old emperor's death always creeped me out too. His hissing, hard to understand voice ("I am still emperor!") and the way he crumbled apart just frightened me as a kid. Also, just the opening credits on the Skeksis around the crystal being rejuvenated by its eerie purple light was enough to set me on edge for the rest of the film.

It's hard for me to remember back to when I saw this in theaters, but I think the tick-like soldiers of the Skeksis would have been rather horrific to me, especially in that scene where they surround Jen in the darkness of the castle tunnelsnothing but red eyes! The things remind me of giant spiders coming after youvery creepy and scary.

Nothing really, but maybe the disrobing scene.

Most of this movie disturbed and frightened me as a child! There were probably less parts that didn't.

The skeksies definitely. And I found the chamberlain really creepy as well, especially his whimper.

Yes! The free-roaming eyeball was pretty gross! It was all wet and moist and then she pops it back into her face. I could just imagine all of the nasty hair and lint it's picked up from rolling around yuck!

Yep,the Chamberlain's being stripped to resemble a post-Thanksgiving turkey; also the Landstriders' pointless deaths. But no one remembered that the Landstriders left a baby behind? That really got me when I thought about it. Their baby was probably too little to survive without its parents.

If you look closely in the widescreen, you will see that there were THREE adults and one baby in the forest clearing. So although two of the adults died, there was one adult left over, which would hopefully take care of the baby. How do we know the adult left behind wasn't the baby's mother/father?

I think Kira's death disturbed me the most when I first saw this. I heard that the guys standing around on the set while it was being filmed were crying during this scene.
I was also disturbed when she gets her life-force sucked out, because I didn't want to see her end up like the Podling. I didn't want to see her eyeballs sticking out.
