Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — First Blood

    Évariste — 6 years ago(September 18, 2019 12:41 AM)

The other Rambo movies have nothing to do with this one. First Blood was about the place in society of Vietnam War veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and how they were not exactly seen as heroes. This one is a very good movie in my opinion.
All subsequent movies are only about carnage.

The 2008 movie is about more than carnage. It’s partially about Rambo coming to terms with who he is and finding it in himself to make the effort to return home and exist in society.
Part 2 and 3 are pretty bad.

It's indeed one of thos "bad but highly entertaining" movies.

I like how he got over all the post traumatic stress from the first movie and decides he's cool with war again and just kills every man, woman and child he sees. It's a redemption story.

Watched it again on blu-ray last Christmas and it is still an amazing movie. Very gritty, down to earth and highly inventive in places. Rambo's survival techniques were original and seeing it again, I actually felt more empathy for Teasle. All thanks to Brian Dennehy's well rounded performance. You got the feeling he was onto a losing battle as he knew he was up against a well trained soldier.

Great critique and I agree with everything you say.

Agreed. It's definitely the best film in the whole series. I especially liked the epiphany Rambo had at the end, plus it's one of the few action movies that features a man crying in it.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Personally, I liked all the sequels (yes even 2, 3 and 5), but I completely agree that the first is and will always be the best. It's the only one where Rambo doesn’t kill satisfyingly, which makes him much more compelling as a character that way.

                        I actually like the First 4 "
                        RAMBO
                        " Movies.
The First Movie is definitely My Favorite out of them.
When it comes to the 5th Movie, I actually still haven't seen it though I have heard some good things about it.
