Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — World War III

Seemed like they could ahve killed them all on the invasion but there seemed to be enough left. From seeing them in the snow earlier int he film, there were maybe 40 or so. The Americans should also have thrown a grenade(if they had any left) down into the entrance area and that would ahve killed most or all of the Soviet troopers.

One poster on this thread suggests that the novel lists around 700 Soviets with only 60 Americans at the pumping station. In the film, you're right to suggest that there weren't quite as many - probably due more to budgetary constraints than anything else.

In the book there were 900 soviets. The Americans kept assulating the soviets with hit and run tatics. They had more than two helicopters and they would use their helictopters to attack the Soviets. The Jone's outpost was where the AMericans kept their base throughout most of the book.

Yes. World War III, by Brian Harris. 1982. Google it. Think I got my copy on eBay couple of years ago.
