I've never been attacked by a dog, but I came close the other day. As I was waiting for the bus at 6:30 in the morning, it was pitch black outside. My neighborhood doesn't have streetlights and hardly anyone keeps their lights on, so it was very dark.
My neighbors have a dog who is old, senile, big, and unpredictable. He gets out of the electric fence and roams the neighborhood. When I was waiting for the bus in the dark by myself, the dog had apparently gotten loose and started barking at me. Even though he's old and slow, it was dark outside, and he's a dark collored dog, so I couldn't see where he was, I could just hear his barking getting closer and closer to me. Fortunately, the owner came out to get him. There was another time, when I was in 8th grade back in 2002, I was waiting for the bus, and the neighbors out of control German Sheppard, who has apparently attacked a few people, came up to me and the other kids at the bus stop and started growling and showing his teeth at us. Fortunately the owner was there to bring him home, otherwise he would have attacked us, and this german sheppard wasn't slow or senile.
Has anyone here ever been attacked by a dog for real, or just had a close encounter?

I was attacked by a rotwieller. I was riding my bike, listening to my headphones, so I didn't hear it coming. It caught up with me and bit my leg. It had no records of any kind, so it had to be quarentined, and they were trying to decide if they were gonna give me rabies shots. Thank God the dog didn't have rabies, so I didn't have to go through that. But I did have to ahve a tetnus shot. The dog later got away and mauled a jogger pretty good. It was then put down. But I was terrified of rotties for a long time!

I've been bitten pretty badly by three count 'em THREE maltese beep crosses, they're mongrels, I own a Dobe and I feel safer around him than those things.
And another time at the paddock there was a Rottie chasing the horses, he got hold of one of the legs straps and I kicked it, then it bit me, right around the lower arm, twelve stitches and a few colourful words later I was fine, still get a bit funny about dogs that roam though.

i have to say that's pretty cruel to tempt a dog to eat chocolate..considering the what would happen..and it doesn't necessary kill them off quickly..a regular milk chocolate bar would take longer then say..a semi sweet..the more cocoa in it..the more toxic..i think..you probably reassured it with a slow deatha few hours isn't really a fast death i think.food poisoning isn't fun..
but..i think that was pretty mean of you..killing somebody elses pet..you didn't mention that it even bit you..only chased you..i could probably see a reason..even though it's still cruel..if it mauled the crap outta you..but just cause it chased you doensn't mean you had to poison it..really awful..
you shoulda called the police again..they would eventually have to permentantly take the animal away from them..i've done that before..unless it was a dangerous animal..as in dangerous i mean the dog killing my livestock..or a feral hunting pack..then i bring out the gun.
i hope you don't start doing that to other folks pets..you sure wouldn't be around for long doing that to mine..that's just crazy..

Wow that was an awful thing to do. You don't even know if the dog would hurt you and yet you kill it! You a horrible person!

You can't kill a dog with a bar of chocolate!!!! It may be 'poison' to a dog, but you would need the dog to eat a huge amount to have any effect!
My dog has eaten chocolate since he was a pup, he's 9 this year and has never shown any ill effects.

Chocolate will not kill a dog unless they have an allergic reaction to it. It will likely upset their stomach, but not kill them. I used to think it would kill them too, but I started working at a vet's office, and all 3 vets said the same thing. It is not poisonous, but it is certainly not good for them. That dog may have gotten sick from the chocolate, but something else probably killed it, or it may have been an allergic reaction. My vets told me that grapes and onions are far more toxic to dogs than chocolate.
Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.
