I've seen this movie dozens of times. I still for the life of me can't figure out their relationship. I mean does he really like her? Why does he break up with her? etc, etc?

Thanks! She seemed much more suited for him, but he seemed so distant and like you said afraid of commitment. Another question, were they still together at the end or was he just being there for her through Emma's death and then back to being broke up?
        Your thoughts?

Well they were literally together, just by him being there. As you get older often in relationships the "dramatic breakup" is less final than when you're young, if that makes sense. They're still neighbors, and he's still going to be in her life. Of course the really crappy sequel makes it clear that they didn't stay together - but, meh.

He'd have to stop banging all those young girls if he committed to Aurora!

I HATED the sequel. Ugh. But I think they were both lonely, wanted love/romance/intimacy, but yep, he preferred girls, not women. Garrett was a man-child and clinging on to a past that no longer existed. Aurora was pretty much a "reality check" for him. Their love is hard to define, but relatable. I loved when he showed up when Emma was dying for Aurora and then at the funeral, with the oldest son inviting him over a swim was nothing short of awesome!! It was nice he made an appearance in the sequel, but I wish the sequel was never made. (Though Juliette Lewis was awesome.)
Interesting. You're afraid of insects and women. Ladybugs must render you catatonic.

There was a sequel? Didn't even know it.
If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.
