That's a period-correct shotgun for law enforcement. It was known as a "rapid fire" model since you could hold down the trigger and fire as fast as you could cycle the slide.

That was also known as a Spaz shotgun, but law enforcement wasn't big carrier's of these. And while on the subject of Rico's weapon he's a MIAMI VICE cop and he's only carrying a little 5 shooter?? Plus his sawed-off? Which gives him a total of 9( if he doesn't miss)? However it's funny considering he would get at least 11 shots off before the guy/girl/drug dealers were dead. Not to mention I'd be more afraid of Izzy than Tubbs. Not a great actor

Yeahno.
A SPAS-12 is a semiautomatic shotgun manufactured in Belgium. While it was popular in bad 1980's and 1990s action films (and also the first Jurassic Park film) it wasn't used by the good guys in any episode of Miami Vice. The Ithaca 37 Stakeout was the weapon used by Tubbs.
