Was the style of Ace Ventura inspired by Larry Zito?

On watching this for the first time since i was a kid (re runs in the early 90's) i couldn't help but notice that Zito has a style just like Ace. Loud shirts, similar trousers at times and even the same hair style (although Zitos is toned down, it's still a gelled quiff) Both have kind of goofy personalities too. The first Ace Ventura movie is also based in Miami. Seems like too much of a coincidence to me.

Standard Miami style. There were a million white guys who looked like this in Miami then.
