I was blown away when this premiered. I was big time into Star Wars toys but once I saw the 3 part More Then Meets The Eye episodes it became my new obsession. I kind of put my Star Wars stuff away and never really got it out again. I started collecting the toys and by the 90s had amassed a big collection. Was very proud of it.
I love season 1 and 2 but felt they went wrong so badly with the movie and the killing off of all the beloved characters. I got to admit it did turn me off a bit and when I tried to watch season 3 it just didn't have the same magic the first two seasons did. I did like how more episodes took place on Cybertron and in outer space but it fell flat to me.
My opinion is they should've instead started a 2nd TV series that was set in the future and it would come on right after the original show. That way season 3 would've been Optimus & Megatron still doing their thing and season 1 of the new show could've been Rodimus & Galvtron. Personally I think it would've kept its popularity. I for one would've welcomed the new show more knowing it was extra / more Transformers on top of the great show they already had going. I think it would've worked in tandem and would've sold even more toys. Then bring out the movie in 89 or 90 to bridge the gap. I think if they could've known how bad the movie was going to kill the franchise they probably would've tried my idea. I have always wondered if they ever considered it.
Regardless I still love this cartoon I just end up watching the first two seasons 8 to 9 times out of 10 and only 1 or 2 viewings out of ten for seasons 3 & 4. I'm also already looking forward to a reboot of the live action movies as I don't like what Michael Bay has done to the originality of the G1 guys.

This is still easily my favorite version of The Transformers. I loved everything about it as a kid and still do. The voice acting, the characters, the action, the music, the sound they make when they transform. It's such a great 80s action cartoon.
So many stories, so little time.
