Friday the 13th was virtually the same movie each time.
    Jason revives.
Jason goes around killing teens one by one.
Teens have sex, occasional flashing of boobies.
Someone discovers murders and instantly is killed so they can't report it it.
Final heroine puts up fight that none of the other teens were able to.
    Jason is killed.
Pretty much the plot lines for all of the movies

Well as a fan of the whole franchise and love all 9 films in the franchise yes even Part's 2,5,6 & The Remake I can fully heartily say that this is much more superior. With Friday the 13th as much as I enjoy each entry for what they are I find most of the films to be terrible films not that I hate them or anything I just find most of them to be awful and they all I mildly enjoy.
      With Friday the 13th.
The original I think is overrated it's a poorly done murder mystery film with some enjoyable characters and some decent frightening scenes.
Part 2 is just a a worse film that just uses the original as a template for it's story and character it's rather a lazy film but still its fun.
Part 3 uses a terrible 3D gimmick that ruins the flow of a otherwise great flick.
Part 4 is a terribly overrated sequel that is lazy.
Part 5 is filled with way too much filler scenes and just doesn't make all that much senses in the long run with it's plot.
Part 6 is super fun but introducing supernatural Zombie Jason elements too way the grit, the seriousness & coolness of the previous films and proceeding films.
Part 7 the carrie like girl and the complete rehashing of The Final Chapter took me straight out of the film.
Part 8 just is way too long and the whole Manhattan thing is just cheap bodycount thing and not for a porpoise of good scares.
Part 9 the first few minutes we're cool but the rest was just way too absurd and make Part 6's mistakes that it brought to the series look tame in comparison.
Part 10 by this point I'm drained by the stupidity and endless bad decisions the franchise has token to even complain about a simple Jason film in space.
Part 11 is pretty cool it has Jason and Freddy fighting together of which is very fun and cool.
The remake is the best installment yet it has realism, scares & a overall vibe that the original series should've gone in way better than the rest.
With A Nightmare on Elm Street I have zero problems they all are amazing and I love em all.

Love both, but I'll have to go with Nightmare on Elm Street.

I like both franchises. Both have their terrible entries. Nightmare Part 4 and onwards got both sillier and creepier at the same. Freddy got pretty comedic but then there's the fact it turns out Freddy kept the souls of everyone he killed in his dreamworld. That's way too creepy. I like Part 6 but only because I liked them going more into Freddy's back story. Plus some of the really comedic stuff like a guy getting turned into a video game and then his body bouncing up and down all cartoony. That's funny. I also liked Freddy's daughter and the doctor she worked with.
I admit I liked the first 4 about equally but it does go downhill after that. I liked Zombie Jason and those movies were fun but just not as good as the previous. Jason goes to Hell is terrible and barely even feels like a Friday film. Then there's all sorts of nonsensical stuff like the Bounty Hunter having to break that guy's hand to tell him about Jason or Jason shaving someone before possessing them. Or at the very beginning of the movie where the Coroner sees Jason's heart beating and then eats it. The only really great part is the cool scene of Jason getting back to his normal form at the end and then getting pulled into Hell by those demons along with the very end where Freddy grabs Jason's mask but most of it is just dumb.
I actually liked Freddy Vs. Jason as much as the first 3 Nightmare films and the first few Friday the 13th movies. It was good to have that made when it was and although I wished we could've had a sequel to it.
I didn't care for the remake of Friday the 13th (didn't even ask for it to be honest). I also didn't like the Nightmare remake which doesn't give you any kind of connection to most of the characters unlike the first film. Now I hear they are doing another Friday film. I might go see it but I will have to see good previews.
                  1, 2 Freddy's coming for you. 3, 4 better lock your door.

Love both but NOES for its versatility and quality. Friday the 13th is fun but most of them are guilty pleasures, with only 4 and 6 being legitimately good, especially 6 for doing something different with the formula. NOES, even at its worse, beats any horror franchise.

If you're going by consistent quality, then Nightmare is technically the better series, as those films on a whole are simply made better. That being said, I prefer the Friday series because I prefer Jason as the killer, and I like the popcorn teen partying atmosphere those movies have to offer. The Nightmare series gets bogged down with a bit too much story for it to be casual fun like the Friday series is.

I can see that. Same thing with the Halloween films, only they get bogged down with too much
                        stupid
story. Busta Rhymes electrocuting Michael freakin Myers in the balls, for Christ sakes!

I prefer Elm Street, but in all fairness I haven't seen all the Friday The 13th films.

I like "Nightmare On Elm Street". I like how they start off where the last one ends.
#3 "Dream Warriors" ends with Nancy's Dad burying Freddy's bones
#4 "Dream Master" starts with Kincaid's dog uncovering Freddy's bones
#4 "Dream Master" ends with Alice fighting Freddy in the hospital chapel
#5 "Dream Child" starts with Amanda Krueger giving birth to Freddy, and Freddy crawling into the chapel and into his clothes.
Most horror movies don't do that. And I liked the Freddy backstory in "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare". Who knew he was married and had a kid? Shocking.
