This movie caught a lot of flack in 1984 from Hollywood according to the comments on the Criterion Edition second disc. A German director and German/French production crew with the two female leads also being from Europe? How dare they come to American and film a movie about us! It was pretty groundbreaking for doing just that, as heretofore that kind of thing just wasn't done. In retrospect though this movie had a ton of influence in spawing the indepedent film movement that would explode upon the public in the early 1990's.

Probably an obvious question for you, jdown-1: are you American? Or an idiot?

I am British. And this is one of the best films I've ever seen.

            What DeclanCochran said.
I have no idea how you came up with this baffling stereotype but stop it. Stop it now.

Does it matter what the British would say anyway?

The film was co-produced by Channel 4. So it had British money invested in it.
                  Its that man again!!

What? I don't get it. Why would British say that? It sounds so American what you said.
An American would say that and not a British person.
