At first, it was a very interesting character study and I was intrigued to see what would happen with the main character. Slow-burner for sure, but it worked in this case and I was enjoying it quite a bit.
But then the movie halted. BIG-TIME. As soon as it got to the scene where he's talking with the woman he's been searching for so long, I started giving less of a crap the more it went on. Suddenly Travis was not someone with his own flaws but someone you still can be invested in. He was a total piece of beep And the ending where he just abandoned the kid, his poor foster parents not knowing where he is Oh my God OH MY GOD. I've never been more pissed off at an ending EVER! This is where it ends? REALLY?????
So yeah, if the last hour would've been better scripted, I would understand the 8.1 rating. But as for now, this is a movie that just feels so ridiculously pointless I regret I sat down watching it.

My friend whom I lent the movie to a few years ago told me that she didn't like the ending.
I liked the ending. It was a good choice; I'm happy that Wenders made it bittersweet.
The dust has come to stay. You may stay or pass on through or whatever.

I agree - I feel Travis at the end was an awful human being! He drags Hunter away from a stable, loving home to take him to his mum who he finds out is a very damaged young woman who has no means to support him and then does a runner. I hope she goes back to live near Walt and Ann so that they can help her bring him up - I really felt for them To have picked up the pieces and then to have it all ripped away from them, terrible. I don't see why they couldn't all be involved in parenting, Travis didn't have to get back with Hunters mum to be involved as a father!

Right. He should at least get a job and make bank transfers each month.
