Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Starman

    jaystarstar — 11 years ago(March 15, 2015 01:23 AM)

alien species elsewhere in the galaxy, and they are unable to respond because of their own species' deeply-ingrained pacifism bordering on complete surrender.
They determine they need a leader familiar with the more primal self-preservation survival instincts such as Terran humans.
Thus they call The Baby (now in his mid-30s) into action to help defend their species against annihilation.
To help convince him to join the battle Starman must return to Earth in the form of a mid-60s Scott Hayden and join Jenny Hayden to convince him.

    1. You ever seen Superman $#$# his pants? Case closed.

Now there's an idea! Is it yours? That's pretty good. Take the story elsewhere otherwise it'd be a dull predictable retelling of the original story in some rehash form some 31 years later.

Nice idea! It screams a bit "Murica!" and savior figure though.
Hmm, also we see that he doesn't flinch from aggression during the movie. He punches the Bozo and he also makes the iron melt and the tree explode (poor tree btw).
But it's an interesting concept. It's the premise of Galaxy Quest btw

no murical. rather who watches substandard sci fi movies has more data than those of us who dont go for them. galaxy quest i call substandard sci fi. no offense intended.
i think the idea for sequel to starman is most acceptable. question is: will it ever be made?? one can hope.

Clearly you didn't watch the film or think it over, the species were more than capable of defending themselves if they were ever put in real danger. Throughout the film, the alien only didn't defend itself because he/she was unsure of the meaning in the assaults like "Are we saying hello or fighting?". When there was a need for protection it demonstrated near godlike powers. I think it had mostly to do with the alien being more like a probe than a normal member of the species.
