The child passed away in a nearby Hospice with her family, not sure if you have them in the US but they are amazing places and their job is basically to bring dignity to terminal illness and to support the family.
I think that the reasoning was that keeping her artificially alive was causing her tremendous pain.

For me if there was even a small chance of a treatment working I would move heaven and earth to make it happen before making the permanent decision to cease life support. It would haunt me the rest of my life the what if? That’s just me. I don’t fault you or anyone else on their views especially when hit with the reality of it and what you would do. It’s a complicated emotional situation.
^This. The biggest issue here is the state removing the decision completely from the parents.

That being said, there have always been children in my family. I also have experience with a terminally ill family member and how important it is to make their last days comfortable through hospice care. So, shut the **** up.
