eew no! Mike Damone is ugly as sin. I can't stand his character in Fast Times. Joyce as a guy just looks like..well Joyce with short hair
I must most humbly beg to disagree. You were meant to despise the one and adore the other, even though, really, they
are
based on the same character stereotype the macho male. That's what her brother Buddy teaches her before she begins her charade.
I recently saw a rerun of a skit of Jon Lovitz as Annoying Man on Weekend Update from SNL back in the day. He was scraping his fingers on a small chalk board or something, speaking in that character's shrill whiny voice; suddenly the WU announcer grabbed his prop and yelled at him to leave.
In a deep, sonorous baritone voice, tinged with a nobleman's British accent, Lovitz said, "You don't have to shout."
The announcer said something like, "I didn't know you could talk like a normal person."
Lovitz merely replied, slowly, in the same voice, "Acting."
I love that guy. He showed up at Billy Crystal's Mark Twain award show as a guest honoror, and during his speech actually "leered" at Crystal's wife and adult daughter, physically and verbally. Crystal was cracking up. Nobody else could've pulled it off.

It has to be intentional. You know that Karate Kid was a HUGE hit, so any sequel or new film that could continue the characters would be green lighted for fast release. The Sherrilyn Fenn character even states that Terry (as a guy) looks like the Karate Kid!

Was Mike Damone that guy who was actually a virgin but he was supposed to be like a sex god or something?
He was "a legend in his own mind."
"This is gonna be great, Rat. It's like the highlight of their day." -

Joyce Hyser as a guy holds a slight resemblance to a young Robert Romanus (a.k.a. Mike Damone in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High").
Looks slightly, yeah. But acts and especially sounds slightly more than slightly like Damone.
I'm watching it on Comedy Central as I type, because I saw your post a few months ago, and agreed whole-heartedly. Not only does the character look, act and talk like Damone as a high school "boy", she also talks like him as a girl.
I don't know if this is intentional, or just Hyser's acting mannerisms. Anyone ever seen her in anything else from that era?
She played "Linda" in Staying Alive, and I seem to remember the speech patterns of those folks were similar to Terry Griffith/Terry Griffith/Mark Damone. Only in this case, I think the resemblance
was
slight. I mean, that story took place in Brooklyn, so youse fuggidaboudit. -

I can't help but think that Joyce Hyser as a guy holds a slight resemblance to a young Robert Romanus (a.k.a. Mike Damone in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High").
I am almost pretty sure I read somewhere that they were siblings, but I don't know if that's true. She definitely resembles him (facial features .. though she is a much prettier version). She also seems to have the same type of mannerisms as him.
(If anyone is wondering which one Damone was in Fast Times, he was the one who got Jennifer Jason Leigh's character pregnant.)
I'm reaching for the life within me. How can one man stop his ending.
