Best case scenario they'd scan the OCN. Other than that they can use the IN or the IP. It's not like they are using old worn prints that have been used in movie theaters.
Blu-ray is being issued by Fox in Japan on April 22, Hong Kong release as well. The US release shouldn't be too far off.

It's great to hear that a US Blu-ray could be released. I wonder why Fox didn't announce it's release in the US first. I haven't seen this film for a long time so I plan to watch it today on DVD to determine if it is worth the upgrade.
OK, I've finally watched the DVD but it isn't anamorphic. I've already ordered the Blu-ray on May 1, 2015 along with Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring on Blu-ray. I think it came out on April 15, 2015.

Well, there is by now. Released May 2011.
I just watched a 1080p release.
Quality is good for a movie of this age. Seen better though (Blade Runner is woah).
