I haven't watched many adventure comedies but so what if it's better? Doesn't mean this one is great. I'm not religious, brainwashed, and I love movies from other countries but I still think Dundee was a very forgettable movie. The character wasn't that great and could have been played by most anyone with an Australian accent. Hogan gave the character no more charm than anyone else could have.
Seriously, what's so good about this movie? I can understand someone being nostalgic about it but aside from that there's not much that sticks out in this movie. Saying this is a good movie is like me saying Beethoven is a good movie. They may be worth a watch but in NO way worthy of good scores.
So instead of irrationally bashing people who don't like this movie give us some reasons why it's worthy of a higher score. -

Well, first off, this isnt technically an independent film. ($8.8 million budget raised by shareholders, and then distributed by Paramount and 20th Century Fox)
Second, even if it was, it wouldn't be the most successful "ever". It wouldn't even make the top 50.
It IS, more specifically, the most successful "Australian feature" off all time. Just to clear things up. -

The highest score is from 45+ years at 6.8. You have to be over 40 to have seen it in theatres.
I suspect it is leftists voting low, look what they think of Duck Dynasty (which is more authentic). Marxists can't appreciate reality where blacks and whites get along. Why would anyone call it racist? -

Wow! What does religion have to do with liking or disliking this movie? Absolutely nothing. I'm an American and I'm Christian and I really like this movie (and the second film). You come across as an ignorant and immature person looking for any reason to bash religion.

To sum up : "I like this movie, therefore anyone who doesn't like it is stupid, religious and brainwashed. . . Oh, and they're American too."
I like your logic.
But seriously - Crocodile Dundee is no Citizen Kane, it's an OK, fairly funny movie that plays on a central "fish out of water" theme. The characters in it are all stereotypes, the dialogue is pretty simple and the plot is unlikely to say the least. I've seen it maybe a dozen times (my wife loves it) but I'd be hard pushed to give it more than a 6 or 7, evidently, judging by its score, I'm not the only person that thinks this.
Or maybe you're a troll. -

So, because 70,000 people collectively gave it a 6.whatever rating, that automatically makes a nation of a few hundred million people "stupid'? And since when did opinions make someone stupid?
Guess we all know who the stupid bigot here is. I suggest learning common sense and educating yourself before you come to the internet, unless you want people knowing how low in the gene pool you stand. -

"Religious, brainwashed, Americans?"
You wouldn't be suggesting American churches brainwash their parishioners into giving Crocodile Dundee a low score, would you? Both the original and sequel were huge hits here when they were released, Crocodile Dundee was the 2nd highest grossing movie in America in 1986, ($2 million behind Top Gun) and Crocodile Dundee II was the 6th highest for 1988.
But, some people just want to point their finger and whine about the other guy. -

A bit unfair. IMDB ratings can often be largely irrelevant for older films plus this is a film which was a cultural phenomenon at the time however would be pretty irrelevant for viewers watching it 20-30 years later. It's also had several other movies in the past 20 years copy it, so something fresh and new 30 years ago might appear stale to viewers who've seen countless repeats throughout the 90's and 2000's.
I'm writing this signature in bold so people know it's a signature -

Old post, but gotta reply. A) this website is not exclusive to US residents and B) look at the statistics: US users give this movie an average 6.6 while non-US users give it an average 6.4.
I could comment about your religious non-sequitur, but I'll keep it simple: you're objectively wrong. -

This australian movie is better than all americans adventure comedies combined together. I guess the majority who have given this movie such a low score, are religious, brainwashed americans who can't appreciate Movies from another country.
I'm a Christian and an American and I loved this movie. -

So are you insinuating that Americans are the only ones that rate movies on IMDb?
All I know for certain is that the vast majority that rate on this site are primarily adolescent boys from any country. They're the ones most concerned with up-rating and down-rating for some personal agenda and they're the ones least concerned with being aware of anything that happened before they were born.
Personally I'm an American that loved the movie and watch it periodically. I think it's seriously under rated.
