I find that in many 80s comedies a bit player or someone way down the cast list will steal the show. Randy Quaid in the Vacation movies comes to mind. And the same is true of Sam Kinison in this movie.

Agreed, that happens a lot. Like Alan Rickman in Die Hard and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Peter Sellers in The Pink Panther.

No, that was supposed to be David Niven's film. It was originally intended to be his show, but Peter Sellers ended up stealing every scene and the franchise went in a major shift, causing all sequels to feature him. A rarity.

You’re right.
It is a good movie with a lot of funny moments.
My favorite ones is with Sam Kinison.
Love the way he is trying to hold it all in then no longer can and just loses it!
The other one is the Springsteen rumor as you suggested.
That is one of the few movie jokes that really cracks me up!
