        DeepFriedJello said it exactly. He knew someone was lurking, but he didn't know it was Jeff (until he jumped down). For all he knew, it could've been a sexual predator/rapist (or otherwise a person with bad intentions). He was saying that to discourage them from trying anything. He didn't actually have a gun, but the individual wouldn't know that.
