The Connor/Rachel subplot is complicated, to say the least. Conner raised Rachel as his daughter since WW2. In 1985 she looks old enough to be his mother, yet she seems to have romantic feelings for him.

Wow. A lot of posters are recommending these movies and I have yet to sit down and actually view these movies.

I highly recommend the first movie in the franchise but I must add that quite many people really seem to dislike it too. Seems that people either love that movie or hate it. While it's been among my all-time favourite movies since it premiered, I can see why some people find certain scenes unintentionally funny. The visual style was unusual even at its time. I love all of it though, and not in a kitsch way: The story is superb imo, and the basic premise one of the best in an action movie ever.

It's such an odd franchise. You have the first movie, and the rest of the franchise is like a "choose your adventure" type situation.

I just got the Blu Ray 30th anniversary edition. It's probably the most comprehensive edition with the most features. However, I'm disappointed that it's the International Cut instead of the Director's Cut (despite what the box says)….

What the difference between International Cut and the Director's Cut, Jan?
I own several versions of HL btw and I think that the 30th anniversary edition BR have the best picture quality.

The versions are the same cut of the film. It's mostly the sound mix and visual effects that differ. Although I do believe the quickening at the end may have a few extra shots in the Director's Cut.
The Director's Cut has the sound effect whenever the Immortals are near each other and the quickening at the end has added effects that hide the wires better. I also liked that sound mix better on my home theatre. The final Quickening sounds ridiculously better on the DVD I have from 16 years ago.

Thanks, Jan. 👍 This is quite interesting and something I'll look into.

This is the DVD edition I have that has the actual Director's Cut on it.
