In TOS, Vulcan and Romulan women females had long hair. In the movies, Saavik has long hair and even Valeris, despite her hair being shorter does not look at all like Spock's hair. But for some reason on TNG, all Vulcan and Romulan women have Spock's haircut. Has there ever been a non-canon explanation in the novels or even at the conventions?

I think all Romulan women on TNG were in the military it could be the Romulan equivalent of an army buzz cut.

Hmmm. The Romulan commander in The Enterprise Incident was in the military. I wonder what made the make-up artists for TNG decide that all Vulcan and Romulan women should wear the Spock cut.

Yes, and I dismissed it because your opinion is contradicted by the Romulan commander in The Enterprise Incident. It also doesn't explain why Vulcan females on TNG ALSO have Spock haircuts if they're not in the Romulan military.

Because they didn't have the budget to always do wigs in TOS, you would have noticed Subcommander Tal didn't have straight hair in that episode. Just like Klingons don't look very "Klingon". Also Saavik and Valeris, not in the Romulan military.

In TOS it wasn't a budgetary thing. They allowed the Vulcan and Romulan women to have long hair. Your theory about Romulan military STILL doesn't address why Vulcan women, like Lt. Selar (and later T'Pol, also not in the Romulan military), ALSO have the Spock haircut. It's okay to say you don't know if you don't know. My question was whether there was ever a reason given for this in the novels or at the conventions (by staff or cast members). I didn't ask for random theories.

This from a psychotic piece of garbage blaming "trolls" for the IMDB boards shutting down. You're a classic example of why inter family breading should be punishable by death.

Well one could argue that a haircut is an expression of the self(and could be considered has an emotional foundation)and being different, you could argue that in a highly logical society as the Vulcans it would be considered distracting and might possibly invite unwanted emotional responses.
In Romulan society the above applies as well plus being a highly militaristic society being different is unwanted because it contradicts the logic of uniformity.

Doesn't answer my question, but does explain why IMDB is getting rid of this useless board.

That was SO stupid. In the original series only a couple of Vulcans had that haircut. Spock was the only one that could pull it off.

Pretty sure it was just signs of the times. It wasn't going to happen in TOS, and things changed. Nothing to do with Spock.

The Vulcan haircut was based on Moe from The Three Stooges.

It's odd. How is it that the hair on the Romulans and Vulcans on TOS looked so much better than on TNG, which all look like bad wigs.
