Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Planes Trains and Automobiles, a film where Martin drops like 25 f bombs in 1 scene, and there is use of some other vulgar language sometimes throughout the film, with some mature content that i wouldnt show kids, has a G rating!!
Holy beep the MPAA ratings were different back then.

Where did you see that it has a G rating? It is rated R because of that scene.

        It has an R rating?
On my IMDb page it says 'AL' which is the Dutch (I'm from the netherlands) equivalent of a G rating?
I thought it was strange, but i guess i'm wrong. Thanks for the heads up though.

I'm also from the Netherlands. Both my old vhs ex-rental and dvd say "AL".

Which is the American equivalent of a G rating right?

If you are talking about rating in the Netherlands, why the heck are you blaming it on MPAA? The Motion Picture Association of America, as the name would suggest, only rates movies in the USA. Take up the Dutch ratings with the NICAM.

Besides the F Bomb scene, what other mature content was there that would warrant an R rating?

There's a little bit of mature content in here, w/ some innuendos here and there.

Innuendos usually dont bump up ratings if theyre subtle enough though. There are plenty of kids movies with dirty references that completely fly over kids heads.

                            Yeah, i suppose so.
But even aside from the F bombs, i feel like this isnt a film to show kids, whatsoever.
That aside, i adore PT&A, and this conversation isnt going anywhere 😉
