Okay, Christmas is supposed to be about generosity and cheerfulness and the loving spirit. But the word black goes against all that and tarnishes everything most people love about the holidays.
If a movie embodies a spirit of the festive or celebratory holiday/season into its style and atmosphere, even if warping it, it becomes an integral part of the movie's ambience.
I don't think a movie has to traditionally celebrate the meaning of its context to be dismissed as not being a proper/conditioned representation.
I see BC as a horror movie first, but its using a theme as a crutch which is glaring in its 2 word title and therefore is a Xmas movie too. DH is the same, an action movie first and foremost which uses Xmas as a backdrop and uses these elements for creative style and humour.

He’s predominantly joyless, and Xmas movies must bother him.

It's most definitely a Christmas movie. One of the key leitmotifs in Christmas movies are how the holiday season brings people together. John and Holly McClane are having problems with their marriage at the start of the film, but manage to resolve these problems and stay together at the end. This is part of a long time-honored tradition in Christmas movies.
For example, Ebenezer Scrooge's nephew Fred Holywell keeps inviting his uncle to his annual Christmas party which Scrooge keeps turning down year after year. However, the spirit of the holiday season ultimately prevails and Scrooge decides to attend Fred's Christmas party instead of skipping it like he used to. Of course, I'm talking about A Christmas Carol here.

A line by Argyle at the end of the film would seem to prove you wrong. He says to John "If this is your idea of Christmas I got to be here at New Years!"
