It's most definitely a Christmas movie. One of the key leitmotifs in Christmas movies are how the holiday season brings people together. John and Holly McClane are having problems with their marriage at the start of the film, but manage to resolve these problems and stay together at the end. This is part of a long time-honored tradition in Christmas movies.
For example, Ebenezer Scrooge's nephew Fred Holywell keeps inviting his uncle to his annual Christmas party which Scrooge keeps turning down year after year. However, the spirit of the holiday season ultimately prevails and Scrooge decides to attend Fred's Christmas party instead of skipping it like he used to. Of course, I'm talking about A Christmas Carol here.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
