In a recent interview, Cleese mentions how he chose the wrong director for this film and he was like a "rabbit caught in the headlights". He didn't elaborate.
Does anyone have any more info on this? I always did feel the direction was a bit too smooth for the humor of the film and didn't compliment the comedy as well as it could have.

And yet the end result was fantastic regardless of who directed or codirected.

The direction and editing is genius in this movie. This thing has so much rhythm. Its like a piece of fine music!
