How old are they meant to be?

Im British so its hard to judge from their university ages etc. At the beginning, he is starting a masters, but she already has one, then when she has a baby that is 5 years later. How old are they do you think?

I think the reference to them being too young was the fact (that in the movie) the characters got married right out of college. Based on the flashbacks in the movie, the characters were highschool/college sweethearts. The movie made it seem they were both out of work college students/just graduated when they got married. I think what he means by "too young" is that he thinks they should have waited until both had jobs and were more settled before getting married. If they got married about around age 21 or 22 in the film, that would have been during or right after they graduated college. Its seemed like neither had jobs on their honeymoon. I am assuming the main character believed they should have waited 2 or 3 years after college to get married.
