why Kovic revealed Wilson's killing to the Family ?

the family should have lived their lives with the official record that he died bravely in battle for his country. but after the revelation, the family would be angry and frustrated at the truth that he died unnecessarily as a result of a mistake by friendly fire. revealing the truth is not going to ease Kovic's guilt on that mistake. the revelation is really unnecessary and pointless.

JDavisii is right. Kovic himself admitted he only did that in a dream, visiting Wilson's family.

As stated by another poster, this event never took place. It was based on a nightmare that Kovic had and told to Oliver Stone. Also, the incident in which Kovic claims he accidentally shot another marine is murky and the conclusion of his commanding officer at the time was that it was very unlikely that Kovic accidentally killed a fellow marine.
