Ok so here it is:
Mollie: why don't you squeeze something the size of a watermelon out of something the size of a lemon and see how you look."
James: Maybe I should call my mother more oftenget it?
I'm not sure I do get it. Yes, I get what Mollie is saying. BUT- Why would he call his mother more often? Cuz she squeezed him out of her "lemon"? Am I reading too much into this? Why would he say "get it?" like there's something to be gotten?
Compelling.Brilliant.Beautifully acted.

Yes, you're reading too into it. He is recognizing how much pain his mother must have endured to bring him into the world, and he doesn't even call her anymore. He feels bad, and jokes that he should show more affection by calling her.

Ok, thanks. I guess the part where he says "get it?"makes it sound like it's a deeper joke than that.

I actually see what you mean because he doesn't need to say "get it"
I think that's kind of the point. It's a bit of an old trope when a really bad joke elicits no laughs, the joker goes, "Get it?" as if the reason no one laughed was they didn't get the joke (when obviously it's because it wasn't funny and/or was a bit offensive or annoying).
