How old is Molly supposed to be?

At the doc's office she says 33, but she hesitates, because I think she's saying she's younger than she really is. She says "303". So, I guess she's in her mid-thirties.

Yeah, she says she's 33 in the doctors' office, but the way she hesitates makes me wonder as well if she wasn't being honest about it. What I don't get is, why would a patient lie to her doctor about her age? It's not like she's trying to get a date with him. Plus, it's in her medical records, so she couldn't get away with it anyway. I could always see someone lying about her age socially, but a relationship with a healthcare provider is strictly professional, so why be ashamed of that information? It's important to be honest with your doctor.

Maybe that's why she hesitated. She's been lying about her age socially, she had to stop and think about how old she really is.

At 33, you can just hear that old clock tick-tocking.
I know 33 is still considered young enough to have a child, but for some of us it isn't.

I disagree with the majority here, I dont think she had any reason to lie about her age at all I just think the shock made her temporarily hesitate before answering. Her mind was elsewhere like "crap I'm pregnant by my married lover" I just dont think her focus was on the question.
Its funny because I myself am 33 and when I first saw this movie I remember thinking how old she was to have a baby for the first time (I was only 8 or 9 when I first saw the film plus my mum was 23 was she had me so to me it was old) I do desperatly want children so the fact I am now Mollys age is a little unsettling lol

Same here I'm 33 and I don't have any kids and when I go back and watch this movie I just imagine me in Molly position at the age of I don't know35 and pregnant. I know 35 isn't old and you have women getting pregnant later than that. My mom had me at 28 and my mom had my sister at the age of 34 and my brother at 35. So I don't feel to bad.

haha I am now 34 and even more aware of my biological clock. Your mom had kids at a relatively reasonable age, unlike my mother who was 20 when she got married, 23 when she had me, and just turned 27 when she had my brother! You are right though, people are having babies at a much later age. I think in 1989 though Molly's age may have been quite unusual.
