Yes, though I don't think it's currently active. I remember when John Anderson ran for president as an independent candidate against Reagan and Carter in 1980. He got over five million votes in the general election.

I was a Dem when I first registered to vote. I came from a middle-class family and lived in the city, it's just kind of assumed you're a Dem. I forget exactly when I changed to an Independent, but it was before the 04 election. I was done with parties pretty early. People treat them like they're religions.
