This is one of the most nebulous horror DVDs out there, and I just irrationally paid a PRETTY penny for a sealed copy of it on eBay today. I'm considering not even opening it, but what's the fun in that? DVDs are made to be watched right?
I think, aside from The Midnight Hour (which I also own, but paid considerably less for), it's the rarest horror DVD there is to my knowledge. You rarely ever see it for sale on eBay, which says something. A reissue would be phenomenal, but I don't see that happening anytime soon (if it was going to happen, it would've when the remake came out). On one hand, I want to be able to enjoy the DVD, and on the other, I want to keep it as a collector's piece I mean, it's still a collector's piece even if it's opened, but you know I suppose it doesn't matter if I open it or not because I don't plan on getting rid of it. I have an arsenal of rare horror titles that I've accumulated over the years and I've never gotten rid of a single one. Once I have them in my clutches, they're mine.

I believe it's Region 1, which is the only release that ever got put out to my knowledge. It's the Carlton company DVD. I made sure it was legitimate too; I got it from a reputable seller and it's got the security sticker on the top and is in its original cellophane, so it's not a knock off. I think I'll probably just cut the security sticker across the top and leave it on the case so that I can watch it. I have mild anxiety about opening it though since it's such a rare item it's irrational, I know. Realistically the only reason for keeping it sealed would be if I wanted to sell it (which I don't plan on), and even then, a used copy and a new copy are relatively close in price, ranging from $200-300.

Alas, I opened it today when it arrived in the post. It had been sitting unopened in the cellophane for fourteen years now, so when I took it off the ink on the top security sticker was pulled off on the cellophane. Haha. I'm glad I opened it though, may as well rip the band-aid off. I'm super happy to finally own it. I've been wanting it in my film collection for years now.

I have watched it, and loved it very much. I'm a sucker for old fashioned ghost stories and this hit the marks in every way. I actually just bought the book recently and plan to read that when I have some downtime from my studies. I'm wrapping up my BA this term so I'm overloaded with reading, but I'm dying to get to the book as soon as possible. As for the quality of the DVD, it is mediocre. It looks like it was lifted from a VHS print so the picture quality is not that great, though it's not indecipherable or anything. I wish a proper DVD/Blu-ray release would come around one of these days.

I bought my copy in 2001 when it was still available in general circulation for $29. Was shocked to find out how much it's selling for today.

                    Cool!
What about the movie do you like?
I've never seen the movie, but based on your thoughts about it, it sounds like a gem of a movie to see!
I know what you mean about deciding whether to open it or keep it sealed.
I figure; unless, you have intentions of eventually selling it, then I would've opened it too.
I have an OLD "Pogo for President" VHS tape (the orig. & RARE 1979) version by Disney that I won on eBay several years ago now and it's STILL SEALED in its original plastic. I won it for $46 plus s/h on eBay. The seller had it in their closet for years & didn't want it, so they sold it on eBay.
I came VERY CLOSE to losing it because this other bidder was fiercely bidding on it. I literally had LESS than a minute to place the bid that won and I did! LOL
I was intent on winning it since it's a rare/new/sealed version is virtually impossible to find.
Glad I didn't give up. LOl

You're very lucky. I had to watch the movie on YouTube which is something I don't really like to do. I'd rather watch on DVD if I can. But in this I didn't have a choice. It was either watch on YouTube or not at all.
