Those dogs and cats are probably long dead and the little kids have grown up now. I'm 27 and they're probably my age by now.

Well, nobody uses camcorders anymore. It's a dead technology. Most people cut out the middle man and upload straight to YouTube. The rest are AFV's target demographic: Technologically-impaired dumbasses who still use videotape.

Since atleast 2008 the show has been able to receive videos from peoples phones, tablets or computers. Which in world today would be at least 90% of all new submitted material. The rest may be from people who have gone through their garage/attic/basement and stumbled upon some old videos.
And while Youtube is a huge website with a huge user base, not everyone uses it. I'm within the prime youtuber age range and in the past 12 months I can probably count how many videos I've watched on youtube itself (and not embedded youtube videos on other sites) on one hand, with fingers to spare. And frankly no one else I know uses it that much either.
Youtube also doesn't come with the added bonus that you could win a lot of money.

To the poster who made fun of people who still use videotape um, DVDs/digital video did not exist in 1990 and I agree with UnnamedGalaxy. People may have videotapes in storage that they haven't been able to find in years. And not everybody has the ability to transfer the tape over to dvd, unless they spend money to. I go to a place that does it for 15 dollars a tape. I did have a device that allowed me to do it straight from a vcr into my laptop but it doesn't work right anymore.
Like the proverbial cheese, I stand alone. Even while seated.

I think sometimes they also throw in videos they've shown before.

I like the mix of old and new videos. Sort of creates a chronicle of human stupidity.
