First, as a cop in the past, he should have had an
alarm to protect him and his family.
AND, what stands out even more, when he was holed up
with that woman after his coma, she should have had
a burglar installed at that home, because he was a
wanted man by the criminals. -

It was some rich doctor's house so you known that it'd have some kind of security system. Wasn't it nice that the doctor happened to be away for weeks on end and allowed her to use it. Naturally he had a weight set, exercise equipment, accuputure needles, etc.
