Oh give me a break!!! My brother used to take the mick out of me all the time. I did the same to my sisters but none of us ever spoke to our mother like that!

Take a look at how Buzz treated Kevin. He ate all of Kevin's pizza, knowing full well that Kevin only liked cheese pizza. As if that wasn't bad enough, he provokes Kevin further by pretending to throw up on him, which makes Kevin shove him, leading to KEVIN getting in trouble. Buzz was even worse in the sequel when he humiliated Kevin at a school recital, and once again, Buzz got away scot free while Kevin got in trouble again.
Kevin's bratty behavior can be blamed on his parents as well as his siblings. His parents are downright mean to him and his Uncle Frank is a pathetic excuse of a human being.

Sorry I'm not sold! So he ate all his pizza, big deal!!! I'm not saying Buzz wasn't a dick but there's no excuse for physicality. As well as that if I spoke to my mother the way Kevin did right from the start I would have been grounded for a year!

So he ate all his pizza, big deal!!!
            It
            was
a big deal to Kevin because he only liked plain pizza. Knowing this, Buzz ate all the plain pizza out of spite towards Kevin. If one of your older siblings did this to you, you'd be pretty pissed off too.
            there's no excuse for physicality
Yes, Kevin shouldn't have used physical force. However, keep in mind that Kevin was 8 and Buzz basically added insult to injury by acting like he was going to vomit on Kevin. That is what made Kevin shove Buzz. Kevin was already angry that all the cheese pizza was gone, because of Buzz. The fake vomiting was the last straw for Kevin.
Also, this probably wasn't the first time Buzz did something to upset Kevin. Being the youngest of his siblings, Kevin was basically a prime target for harassment at their hands.
As to the way Kevin spoke to his mother, he shouldn't have spoken to her like that. However, when kids misbehave or talk back, there's usually a reason. If you watch the movie again, you'll notice that Kevin is either ignored, picked on, or punished for something he didn't do.

Nonsense! If you're a parent you're an unfit one and your kids will be bullies so I hope you're proud!!! Nobody made Kevin say 'Hang up the phone and make me why don't ya'! Nobody forced him to play with the glue gun when he knew he shouldn't and nobody forced him to make ornaments out of his dads new fish hooks and that's all in like the first five minutes.

First of all, I'm not a parent. Second, who do you think you are harassing me like that? If you don't agree with what I said earlier, that's fine, but it does not give you the right to be a troll.

Wow, those are all major transgressions! Does it really strike you as odd behaviour for an 8 year-old? You sound like an older, old-school parent, but for 30 or 40 something parents, please excuse us if we don't impose martial law on our kids.

It's likely Buzz has treated Kevin this way his whole life and the pizza just pushed him over the edge. Now in the second movie Buzz really asked for it.

Well that's sort of the whole point of the film. The main character has to undergo a personal journey and Kevin's was that he was an irresponsible and helpless brat who learned to fend for himself and get a lesson in how to appreciate people or in this case his family.
It's film school 101. Just becasue he is a child doesn't mean he's exempt from it.

I didn't think much of it as a kid, but as an adult, his attitude is REALLY off-putting.

I would never have been anywhere near that rude to my parents eitherand I was no perfect little angel. But in his defense, you can tell that the parents hadn't taken the time to teach any of their children appropriate behavior, and they did unfairly single out Kevin for punishment. It doesn't justify Kevin's behavior, but it wouldn't have been fair to punish him severely for disrespect when nobody had taught himor his siblingsdecent manners.

It seemed like that was the norm for Kevin and his family, though. His mom didn't seem shocked that he said those things, which means it probably wasn't the first time Kevin acted like that. I guess some parents would get all bent out of shape and others would just let it roll off their back and treat him bad as well.

His siblings, his parents, all to blame. If anyone deserves the harsh words, it's them and only THEM. Besides, Kevin nourishes nicely throughout the film and that was the point of the character, he went from being a bratty little kid to an adult. The second movie he proves it even more by standing up to his family in a more proper way, he didn't even care about the attic in that one.

Kevin was a brat but the entire family were complete dicks to him. I put more of the blame on the family seeing how Kevin is only an 8 year old.

In a deleted scene, after Kevin's mom sends him into exile up in the attice, she returns downstairs and tells her husband, "I'm worried that our son is becoming a mouth brat."
Overhearing, Uncle Frank leers and says, "He wouldn't be that mouthy if his mouth were full."
The parents figured it was time to present Uncle Frank with a restraining order but they had to catch that plane, and never got around to it.
