Rich- Jason Marsden seemed to play the same character in every sitcom he appeared in at the time.
Flash- Poor replacement for Cody.
Karen- She just didnt seem to fit in at all within the family.

You didn't see him on Full House then, where he played an entirely different person. He was DJ's wealthy boyfriend for several episodes. I actually think the young actor was quite skilled. -

Funny thing is that Rich made appearances earlier in the series as Rich before he became a cast member.I believe it was in season 3. I didn't like the pairing of Dana and rich because I felt that rich was pretty much Cody with no family relation. So why would Dana like him if she hated Cody? I didn't mind rich as it's friend though. I will say that I liked Jason Marsden much more as Eric's friend on Boy Meets World. He easily was funnier than jack and had better dynamic with Eric especially considering that he's will friedel's real best friend.

I think Rich was ok here is my list.
Lilly- they made her cute: no substance.
Jean-Luc- I am sure Bronson Pinchot is a fine actor, his Frenchman act so unnecessary for the show.
Flash- Thank god he was in 4 episodes, a temporary replacement for Cody. They should kept Cody, allow him act while he fights his legal issue. Him leaving was the dagger in the show's heart. Flash was just a hyperactive whiny character. -

Yeah, but do you know the difference between Accused and Convicted? A rhetorical question. SbS should of let Sasha fight his charges on side while he is on hiatus, keep him on and if he beats the charges, come back to show, if convicted, kick him off.

Like Brenden, Cody was a fixture on the show, they just took them out, and they tried with 3 characters I mentioned after Cody left the ratings fell. He came back 2nd last episode before cancellation and it was like that long lost family member came back. And he had money given to Frank and Carole for the hospitality, Frank buys a dumb chair and Carole fights him and Franks sleeps on the couch. He given J.t a necklace that makes him desirable to women, but transferred it to Mark where bunch of woman ravaged him outside ripping his clothes off.
But our society is screwed. Women wants equal rights, but when an alleged crime is a man on woman, the broken society automatically sees the man as guilty. Even when women are the aggressors, Sasha protected his children in a domestic situation, and yet our screwed up society sees him as a criminal. Society let Sasha down, and Step by Step abandoned him, even though he ranks top or top 3 in best character on the show. Sasha did go to jail, not for the allegations, but he went to Tennessee and breached his probation to go to spousal abuse therapy. AND THEY MAKE HIM go to that even though he is ALLEGED. Thank you Broken down society. -

Short term characters:
Jean-Luc
Flash
Sam
Long term/family characters:
Brendan
Mark
Lilly
Jean-Luc was just awkward. I was uncomfortable just watching him. I usually really enjoy the ABC sitcoms when they go to Disney World, but Flash just ruined the Step by Step episodes for me. Not sure why he was ever added. And Sam well, that just didn't work. I couldn't by her as JT's girlfriend. Ever. And in the episode where Rich gave Dana the necklace he had given to an old girlfriend, JT acted like such an ass and it was impossible to believe that any girlfriend would have been as okay with it as Sam was and wouldn't just dump him on the spot.
I can see why they got rid of Brendan. I never understood the point of him. Mark was too awkward. Not awkward like Jean-Luc, but just awkward and too stereotypical for my tastes. As for Lilly, it's never good when they have to add in a new kid. She was cute to look at, but then they tried to make her overly cute with the cutesy dialogue. That wasn't needed and just made her annoying. -

Jean-Luc definitely didn't fit the show. I think they were looking for another full-time character to replace Cody. What is even sadder is I heard years later that the allegations against Sasha Mitchell were false. They should have kept Sasha Mitchell on the show, especially since he claimed his innocence all along, until the facts came out at least.
I don't have a problem with Lilly. She was a cute child. Yes, the show was on its last legs by the time she arrived, but that is what most long-running sitcoms do (usually after they Jump the Shark, lol). They add a small child or other character to try to have a few more storylines.
Rich was okay, but featured too much. He was fine for the occasional guest appearance. What was bizarre about that was the show never seemed to find Brenden much to do and the last season dropped him from the show, yet they found plenty of stories for Rich. -

Brendan. Was he even a character? He's the Judy Winslow of Step by Step.
Jean-Luc. Agree with the ones who said he's not a good replacement for Cody. Thankfully they got rid of him in the last season.
Lilly. Cute little kid, well, yeah. -

Wasn't Brendan actually on more episodes and had more lines than Judy did on FM? Anyways I think the three worst were Jean-Luc/Flash tied for first, Lily, and for some reason Dana. I know she was ok sometimes but it kind of seemed like she was too negative sometimes. The other question should be top 3 best cast members. My top 3 favorites are Cody, Karen, and JT. All of the other characters were ok.

for some reason dana
dana was an elitist bitch and I really don't get why. her mother seemed great at parenting and would often have to rein dana and her political/educational propaganda in. from mentoring lilly to her thinking she knows the be all and end all of childtending, she was just so full of herself it wasn't even funny.
and her being a bitch to the tijata police makes us look so bad.
she seemed to be bitchier when she platinumed her hair.
Karen was a little shallow but she got better over time, like with Bird the Nerd, and coming to Al's rescue when that Jockstrap tried to lie about her.
Mark got better, too and he even had an obsession/almost addiction [the video game]. so that made him more or less normal.
what did dana have to showcase her normalcy or even admit that she was normal?? nothing. she was the one who needed the most psychological help and here is everyone else encouraging her to be a lawyer/whatever. I really didn't think she wanted to help people in need of law guidance, she just wanted to beat the opponent down to size [nothing] and bury the judge in 'dana foster is awesome' bitchiness.
I hope she would be disbarred soon after passing. she was a terrible person with no soul.
OH THANK YOU GOD! THANK YOU SO

Carole was
not
always a good role model. She could treat her husband like crap, like when she refused to let him even
taste
some of the lobster, that they had gotten as payment for a job that
he
did, and let Dana mock him at the same time. And yeah, she and Jean-Luc just
had
to win the bowling match against Frank and his "male chauvinist" friend
. I really don't find it hard to believe that Dana turned into a condescending extremist feminist, or indeed that Karen turned into a air-headed bimbo. They were simply channelling different traits from their mother! -

Yes he appeared in more episodes, he was always kind of there before disappearing (with no explanation) in the last season, but I don't remember the kid ever doing anything other than stealing Mark's ice cream in the intro.
