Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Only the Lonely

I hadn't seen this movie in probably twenty years; I just watched it, and realised that I've completely misremembered the plot of this movie. So help me figure out what movie I am thinking of:
An overweight man meets a woman and decides to lose weight because he thinks she's cute; he gets himself in shape, and they seem to be falling in love, but then she does something really horrible to him (I forget what), and he discovers that she isn't in love with him. At the end, they're back in love again, I forget how.
What movie is this? I thought it was Only the Lonely, but no. And it's not a John Candy movie, either. I'm stumped.

Hi..I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the 1980 movie "Fatso" with Dom DeLuise, Anne Bancroft, Ron Carey and Candice Azzara as the girlfriend, Lydia who Dom DeLuise's character Dominick DiNapoli tried every which way to lose weight so he can romance her. By the way, Lydia didn't do anything terrible. She left suddenly to tend to her sick brother but didn't tell Dom until later. Everything turned out fine in the end. Turns out.he didn't really have to change too much. She loved him just the way he was. It was a hilarious movie written and directed by Anne Bancroft. But I did feel that Anne Bamcroft badly overacted as Dominick's sister, Antoinette. The movie was great though.
